Have better luck this year just by eating some of our favorite Southern dishes? Don't mind if we do.
1. Black Eyed Peas are said to bring good fortune and wealth because of their resemblance to coins. Extremely superstitious eaters will tell you that you need to eat exactly 365.
2.Cornbread is said to be lucky because of its resemblance to gold. Some cooks will even add more corn kernels of corn in the batter because of their resemblance to gold nuggets. We think that if you’re lucky enough to be eating hot-out-of-the-skillet cornbread, you’re already lucky enough.
PD Tip * Use cornbread to soak up the potlikker, or juice from cooking the collards.
3. Pork is considered lucky because hogs cannot turn their heads without turning their whole body, meaning they must always move forward. Eating pork is said to bring about progress in the coming year.
4. Greens are considered lucky because of their resemblance to money. Collards are the preferred green of this superstition but we think with today's food trends that kale counts too!
